Now the fun begins, the top ten picks in most drafts are pretty much obvious, no real drama unless a deranged Raptors fan takes Sonny Weems in the top 5. After 10 however , that’s when it gets interesting. Here are my 11-20 player rankings.
11. Amar’e Stoudemire: I think that’s how you spell his name. Now that Shaq and Terry Porter are gone Amar’e has the middle to himself and is back to playing run and gun with his buddy Nash. Should be enough for him to put up 27 and 9 a night like old times. Considering the Suns are no longer and elite team, and can’t rely on Nash every night Amar’e will have every opportunity to show that he is worth a new contract if he stays healthy and puts up big numbers. Areas that he’s go to step up in are rebounding, and shot blocking, that’s why he’s not in the top 10.
Prediction: 25 ppg, 9 rpg, 2 apg, 54 FG%, 83% FT, 1.4 bpg.
12. Brandon Roy: Very solid player who if he was on a worse team would put up huge numbers. If Portland didn’t get Andre Miller, Roy would be their crunch time PG which would keep him in the top 10. Portland’s depth does care me a little, but everyone knows that this team will only go as far as Roy takes them. I see similar stats to last year with a slight decline in APG.
Projection: 23 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 4.8apg, 48 FG%, 38 3P%, 82% FT.
13. Chris Bosh: Playing for a new contract whether its with Toronto, New York, or Miami. Should put up very similar stats when comparing to the last few season.. Toronto has a lot of firepower and something tells me that Bosh will not put up more then 22.7 ppg which is his career high. I think it’s safe to say Bosh has reached his ceiling as a scorer. Still waiting on him to become an elite rebounder and he is sharing a frontcourt with Andrea Bargniani who cant rebound if his life depended on it, so there are plenty boards for the taking. Blocking a few shots also wont hurt.
Projection: 22.5 ppg, 11 rpg, 2.5 apg, 47 FG%, 81% FT, 1 bpg.
14. Andre Iguodala: I think he merits this spot. He is the definition of a good at everything great at nothing player. Now that Andre Miller is gone he should get some more ball handling responsibilities even though he’s not a PG. Also this guy has way to much of an offensive game to not get 20 a night, IO fully expect a 20-5-5 season from him.
Projection: 20.5 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 5.5 apg, 49 FG%, 31 3P%, 74% FT.
15. Tim Duncan: Ah the Big Fundamental. One of the most consistent players in NBA history, nearing the end of the line. Don’t write him off yet. Yes his team is loaded. Yes he didn’t even put up 20 ppg last season. Yes he will be on limited minutes to res up for the playoffs. The Spurs still play in the West however, and with the brutal completion that the conference entails the Spurs need TD to lock up a top 2 seed. He will have a typical Tim Duncan year, one his last elite ones.
Projection: 19.8 ppg, 11 rpg, 4 apg, 53 FG%, 70 %FT, 2.0 bpg.
16. Pau Gasol: The guy shoots about 1000 times a year and hits about 567 of them. Pretty damn good. Gasol is one of the more talented big men in the NBA. Playing with the Mamba has really helped him as he’s getting looks he never got in Memphis. A lock for 19 and 9 a night, even with Bynum. Kind of invisible in the defensive categories like blocks but still a dynamite pick.
Projection: 19.2 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 3.4 apg, 57 FG%, 79% FT, 1 bpg.
17. Paul Pierce: Another older player on a loaded team. Pierce no longer cares about getting 25 a night. He is now the type of player who will do whatever it takes to win. How that translates into fantasy is a question. However seeing as how KG couldn’t give a crap about scoring anymore and Ray Allen isn’t what he used to be, Pierce is still the go to guy on the Celtics. Wore down last season but should be fresher due to less minutes.
Projection: 19.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4 apg, 45 FG%, 39 3P%, 83% FT.
18. Elton Brand: This guy looked more uncomfortable then Taylor Swift at the VMA’s while in Philly last season, and that was before he hurt his shoulder. Now he’s back, after 2 major injuries in the last 2 seasons, trying to be the 20 and 10 guy he once was. Big problem, he’s not that guy. Philly is going to be playing fast break basketball under Eddie Jordan this season and I don’t know if that will suit Brand.
Projection: 17 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.2 apg, 48 FG%, 68% FT, 1.7 bpg.
19. Gerald Wallace: The one guy in the league who makes me cringe every time he drives to the basket. Wallace is the best player on a bad team. Fantasy Alert! His style of play usually causes him to miss double digit games every year so beware of that. Otherwise a solid player who helps out in a number of categories.
Projection: 17.5 ppg, 8 rpg, 3 apg, 47 FG%, 31 3P%, 81% FT.
20. Gilbert Arenas: Welcome back Agent Zero. It feels like its been 10 years since Gilbert started and NBA season healthy. With a new coach, a slightly upgraded roster Washington looks to re-enter the Eastern conference playoff race. Arenas is not going to average 28 ppg. Lets get that out of the way. He will however, display playmaking skills that you, or I didn’t know he possessed.
Projection: 22 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 8.5 apg, 43 FG%, 32 3P%, 75% FT, 0 Blog posts.
