1. Joe Saunders, LAA:
What a year so far for the left-hander in Anaheim. He is 6-1 and his loss came despite giving up one run in 6 innings. He will next pitch against the Toronto Blue Jays and Saunders is no stranger to the road. In four starts this year on the road he is 3-1 with a 2.13 ERA. He is a must-start for week 8.
2. Joey Votto, CIN:
In his last 6 games he is batting .318 with 4 home runs. He will play 7 games in the up coming week. For the season he has 8 home runs and 20 RBI’s in only 111 at-bats. With the rumors of OF Ken Griffey Jr. being traded to the Mariners, he would slide in higher in the lineup giving him more opportunities for RBI’s. If available, grab him and do not hesitate to put him in any fantasy lineup.
3. Dan Uggla, FLA:
What a difference a month makes for this Marlin. He ended April hitting .255 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI. In May he already has 8 home runs with 17 RBI’s in only 12 games. He is hitting .390, slugging 1.073 and has an On-Base Percentage of .480. He is on a role and continue to start him in week 8.
4. Ted Lilly, CHC:
What a horrible start for the season for Ted Lilly. He lost his first three starts and had an ERA of 9.16. In his last four starts he has only given up 7 runs in 26 innings. He has at least pitched in the seventh inning in those four starts and has lowered his ERA to 5.24. He has won three of his last four starts and is a great start for week 8.
5. Ryan J. Braun
In his last 6 games he is hitting .444 with 4 home runs and 6 RBI’s. He has begun to hit for power and it could not come at a better time for fantasy owners. The Brewers will play the Nationals and Pirates on the road. The Nationals have the worst team ERA and the Pirates rank 12th in team ERA in the National League. Braun and the rest of the Brewers are must starts for week 8.
6. Kevin Youkilis, BOS:
Not normally a power hitter, Youkilis has hit 4 home runs in his last 6 games. In that span he has 9 RBI’s and 4 multiple hit games. Youkilis is the most consistent hitter for the Red Sox this year and his sudden power at the plate are making his fantasy owners ecstatic. He is a must start for week 8.
7. Erik Bedard, SEA:
He got roughed up in his last start against the Rangers giving up 6 runs on only 2 innings pitch but look for him to rebound in week 8. He is scheduled to face the Padres who are last in the N.L. in: runs scored batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Look for him to rebound at home in week 8 with a win.
8. Delmon Young
He is on the rise after starting off slow. Although he has not hit a home run, he has 12 RBI’s and 7 stolen bases. In 10 games in May he already has 4 RBI’s and 6 runs scored. He had only 8 RBI and 12 runs scored in the entire month of April. He will travel to Detroit and he is hitting .333 against them this year. He should be in everyone’s starting lineup for week 8.
Sit’em
1. Joe Blanton, OAK:
In his last 19 2/3 innings pitched he has only given up 6 runs. Despite those impressive numbers he only has 2 wins to show for all year. In week 8, he will make two-starts against the Red Sox and Rays. The Red Sox are first in the A.L. in: runs scored, hits, RBI, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. The Rays are a very good hitting team. He should be on the bench for week 8.
2. Nick Swisher, CHW:
Coming over from Oakland in the off-season, Swisher had the makings of a comeback year, yet he has struggled in his first year in Chicago. He is hitting only .205 and has not hit a home run in 15 games. He continues to get on base (.336) but his lack of aggressiveness at the plate is thwarting his success. The White Sox face the Indians and Angels in week 8. The Indians are 2nd in the A.L. in pitching ERA (3.38) and Swisher has struggle in his career against the Angels. He is a must sit for week 8.
3. Mark Reynolds, ARI:
He his one for his last 14 and his average has dipped to .230 for the season. After having a great start for the season, Reynolds has cooled down tremendously. He is a very streaky hitter and one that should not start in week 8.
4. Jhonny Peralta, CLE:
Peralta has slowed since exploding on the scene in 2005, where he ended the year hitting .291 with 24 home runs and 78 RBI’s. How things have changed in 2008. He is hitting .201 but has 6 home runs. He is on pace to hit over 25 home runs but cannot be trusted in rotisserie leagues.
5. Jonny Cueto, CIN:
After the 2-0 start to the season, he has lost he last four decisions. In week 8, he will pitch on the road, where Cueto has not had success. He is 0-3 with a 9.16 ERA. Opponents are hitting .333 and he has given up 19 runs in only 18 2/3 innings pitched. He is a good candidate for the bench in week 8.
6. Eric Brynes, ARI:
He has fallen off many peoples radar with his play in 2008. Coming into play in week 7, he is only hitting .220 with 3 home runs and 15 RBI’s. He has the potential to steal over 40 bases, yet he only has 4 for the season. In his last 11 games, Brynes is hitting .111 with only 1 run batted in and no home runs. He is a must sit for week 8.
7. Randy Wolf, SD:
In his first three starts he had a 1.42 ERA and fantasy owners were hoping it could last. In his last five games how things have changed for Wolf. He is 1-3 with a 7.86 ERA. He should not be owned and should not be in any fantasy starting lineup for week 8.
8. Robinson Cano, NYY:
He is off to a terrible start and it is not going to get any better soon. Last year, Cano did not start to heat up until July. After July, Cano was on a tear and ended the season with good numbers. So far this year, Cano cannot buy a hit. He is hitting .183 and has not hit a home run since April 26. Sit Cano until he can start hitting again and consistently.
