Well I'm pumped up for this weekend, I love the road tracks. Im not going to be able to watch the race this weekend because I will be offshore tuna fishing so my picks will do good because when I dont watch, i do great! Watkins Glen was first introduced into racing in 1948, and Nascars first race here was in '57. It was later closed because of a bankruptcy issue then reopened in '84 and re-introduced to the Nascar series. There have been alot of modifications to the track throughout the years, for example- In 1992 a major reconfiguration of The Glen's back straightaway. The addition of the Inner Loop increased the length of the long course to 3.4 miles and the short course to 2.45 miles. The new turns enhanced competition while adding quality spectator viewing. All these changes have helped to make this the fastest road course in North America.
Well my pick to win it would have to be Robby Gordon. He has got to be pumped to get back into the car on a road course because of how his last one ended. So much free Press, way to go Robby. So what you missed a race, got some fines, it was worth everybody talking about you right? In the last five starts he has 1 win 4 top fives, and 4 top tens. with an avg finish of 5.2.
Speaking of Gordons, Jeff Gordon will also have a good weekend. There is a good chance a Gordon will win this weekend. Personally I wouldn't put him on my team but I feel he may just do well this time around. He has 4 wins here but in the last five years, I would say hes slacked off at the glen. He hasnt been higher than tenth in the last five races here. But he's having a good year, so he is always a safe pick.
Instead of Gordon Id go with Tony Stewart. He is the man of Watkins in my opinion. Like I've been saying -when hes hot hes hot. If the weather is hot, and the track is hot then so is he. In his last 5 starts here he has 3 wins 4 top fives with an ave finish of 3.2!!
Kevin Harvick - last weeks montreal race he won from 2nd place. He also will do well on this weeks road coarse. In his last 5 starts he has 1 win, 2 top fives and 3 top tens at watkins. He will be in the top five once again.
Mark Martin isnt racing. I had him on my team and then swapped him out for Harvick. Dont put Regan Smith on he is not going to place well.
Denny Hamlin will run well, he doesnt have much experience here with only 1 start but he did place tenth last time he was here.
Matt Kenseth - if you didint know already hes not a good road racer. He likes to go in circles. Dont pick him, he has only two top tens in the last 5 races. I mean he says hes no good, but a top ten is pretty good, so its hit or miss. See how he qualifies and practices then pick him.
As for the DEI boys, I know i was wrong about Dale last week. This week Dale jr. will do alright. Hes not great at this track, but hes trying to make the chase, so anything is possible. He has 2 top fives and 3 top tens in his last 5 races here. He is another one to keep an eye out for.
Kurt and Kyle. Well Kyle isnt so good here with 2 races at Watkins under his belt, only one being top ten. Id say like brother like brother, Kurt isnt so good either, he has 5 starts recently with only 1 top ten.
Truex started one race here, and finished way back in 28th. Dont expect much better this week.
There is always Boris Said, Ron Fellows who are road coarse pros. Watch for them. If you need a spot filler for a low cost put them on and get rid of Ruetimann!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jamie Mcmurray Has been hot on the road coarses. He is a solid mid range pick. I think his hot streak is over though, placing third here last year, and almost winning the sonoma race but running out of gas. His stats speak for themselves Hes been hot there but in the last 5 years there he only has 1 top five, and that was last year.
Last but definetly not least Jaun Pablo Montoya. Well you know hes good at these tracks. This is his first race here at Watkins Glen. He will do just fine maybe even win it!
Stay Away from Truex, Kurt and Kyle Busch Paul Menard Terry Labonte.
