This sunday brings us to the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The 2.5 mile semi banked oval track that is one of the most prestigious and historical tracks. Dating back to 1909 when the first bricks were layed. Now in 2007, there are only a few yards of visible bricks that remain on the track The rest have been covered with asphalt. Who will be kissing those bricks this weekend.
Of course JEFF GORDON is a favorite pick this weekend, who can honestly even think of taking him off your team with the season he is having. Gordon has four wins, seven top-five's and 10 top-10 finishes. Gordon also holds the record for the most laps led by a race winner with 124.
MARK MARTIN may have a good weekend after not making much noise lately, but with new teamates like Martin Truex and Dale jr. the possibilities are endless.I feel bad for his teammate Regan SMith who gets shafted and now goes to racing the trucks, and Eric Almoriala getting to split the time with Mark now.
Next pick would be JIMMY JOHNSON, who doesnt have great success here at brickyard, but won here last year. He only has 2 top tens in the last 5 years. With the season he is having and the success Hendrick has with his cars ill take jimmy on my team this weekend.
TONY STEWART is another guy you need on your team. His wins come in bucket loads, all together, so if hes hot he will be one to have for the next couple races. In the last 5 years he has 2 top 5's and 3 top tens.
MATT KENSETH is superior here at the brickyard, he has 4 top 5's in the last 5 years. He would have won last year, but gordon edged him out in the end.
Another good pick this week would be KEVIN HARVICK. He has 4 top tens and 3 top fives in the past 5 seasons, and is a threat to take it this year.
Clint Bowyer, Kyle Busch, and Denny hamlin are all drivers i might think about placing on my team as well who also have above average stats here.
Dark Horses in my book this week are Kasey Kahne and Bill Elliot. Kahne has had some success here with 2 top fives in 3 races. Not having a good season so far but hes got the talent, and when Ray gets his car going, Kahne will be up there again, I think this is the weekend that He stays on the lead lap. Elliot has 1 win and 2 top fives and three top tens in the past five years. He is also the only other driver besides gordon with multiple wins here at the yard.
Cant forget about Montoya, my man Juan-Pablo, Who in his rookie year in 2001 took the Indy 500's checkered flag. He has the experience at this track, yeah maybe not in a stock car, but has had more time on this track than a majority of the field he is racing against sunday.
Stay Away from Dale Earnhardt jr. who will wreck again( not his fault ) Elliot Sadler and Truex who have not had success here on the Bricks.
