Ok, my dear friends. My first mock draft is finally over. As anticipated, the last three rounds didn't take very long to complete as teams were just drafting back-ups for their main starters. Below are the results for the re-draft (single year) type mock draft.
JUSTGREAT: 13.1
With the first pick in the 13th round, I select Kicker Jeff Wilkins. Last season he connected on 32-of-37 field goals (tied for 1st with Robbie Gould) and went 3 for 3 on attempts of 50+ yards. Wilkins is one of the most accurate kickers and can kick long range. The Rams offense will give him plenty of opportunities this season, which will keep him amongst the best in the game.
A_LYE22: 13.2
I will go with Nate Kaeding. I love the points that the Chargers (err, I mean Ladainian Tomlinson) puts up. Kaeding was second in points scored among kickers last season and I think he'll match those stats again this season. Rivers is maturing and the rest of the offense is static from last year. Kaeding it is!
TITANFAN704: 13.3
With the third pick in the 13th round, I select TE Jason Witten from Dallas. He struggled last year scoring only 1 TD. Once again, he has 2 solid WR’s to keep the heat from the opposing defenses off him. He has a young QB that will only improve with time and should rebound this year and regain his spot among the top 10 TE's.
WRIGLEY161: 13.4
I'll finish up the Def. position and select the Vikings. They are pretty consistent and isn’t that bad to have use them as a backup defense. I think that they will rebound this year and really make a push for the playoffs. In order to accomplish that feat, their defense has to do it because their offense cannot get the job done.
HOKIE628: 13.5
I’ll take the Raiders Defense.
This is partly because my other choices have been taken. That being said the Raiders have great corners and a good defense. They have one of Buddy Ryan's sons-both of whom are good defensive coordinators. In fact, the main weakness in my mind of the Oakland Defense is that it can never match up against the Oakland Offense!
FANTASY DR X: 13.6
I select the Buccaneers as my second and final defense. I believe they will return to glory this year as they went young by drafting 8 out 10 defensive players in last April’s draft.
THE_GOOBER08: 13.7
With my pick here, I'll take Tony Scheffler as my back up tight end. He and cutler seemed to have a special connection at the end of last year. Scheffler broke his foot recently and is out 2 months, but he will be back for the season opener and pre-season included ready to catch touchdown passes from Cutler.
MICHIGAN/OHIO: 13.8
I select my final defense by picking the Giants. Somehow, they always find a way to be in the top 10 every year.
BOYGEORGE: 13.9
I'll take my back-up defense now. The pickings are slim but I choose the Washington Redskins. The Skins made some moves in their secondary, which improved their defense considerably. As a second defense, I feel comfortable with them.
BRONCOFAN46: 13.10
With the last pick in the 13th round, I select TE Benjamin Watson of the New England Patriots. I liked Daniel Graham, now with the Broncos, better: but his bye week is the same as Vernon Davis.
With all the many WR's now with NE, perhaps they will open the field down the middle for Watson. I have always liked his potential and he seems to have a rapport with Brady. Too many targets to share the ball with, though, to get overly excited.
BRONCOFAN46: 14.1
With the first pick in the next-to-last round, I must take a kicker and my token Bronco. Jason Elam has been a good kicker for years. His leg is not as strong as before, but still gets to kick in the mile high air. The Broncos red-zone offense has been shaky in recent years (hope that is not true next year) giving Elam plenty of opportunities to kick field goals.
BOYGEORGE: 14.2
I will now take my kicker. The Cardinals will always count upon Neil Rackers to come trough when the offense stalls in the red-zone. This year he should return to post 2005-caliber numbers as their offense should finally click. I suspect he will do just fine under these conditions.
MICHIGAN/OHIO: 14.3
I will draft my kicker as well in the 14th round by taking Bengals’ Shayne Graham. Kicking for a high-scoring team will ensure many opportunities for Graham to shine again next season.
THE_GOOBER08: 14.4
I’d better take one of the best kickers left on the board because there probably won’t be any good ones when the draft comes back around to me. I’ll take Josh Brown from Seattle. He has emerged as one of the best young kickers in the league over the last two years. Kickers are always a hit and miss, so we shall see how this pick works out for me.
FANTASY DR X: 14.5
Well, if the Raiders invested heavily on this stud, they must have seen something they liked. I saw that too!
Jamarcus Russell is the real thing and will contribute soon. His arm is a cannon, his ability to escape danger and capability to run makes me compare him to the Daunte Culpepper we all loved when he first came into the league.
Worst comes to worst, should he not contribute instantly (he'll play for the Raiders after all) all I need him for is one week. That week is when Brees is on a bye.
HOKIE628: 14.6
Kicker for the Patriots, Stephen Gostwoski is my choice. Playing on a super-bowl caliber team will give him enough shots at being the highest scoring kicker in 2007.
WRIGLEY161: 14.7
Kicker Lawrence Tynes is my pick. Tynes will be playing for the Giants next season and that will boost his value.
TITANFAN704: 14.8
With the eighth pick in the 14th round, I select my biggest true sleeper this year. WR Brandon Marshall, Denver. A big guy at 6-4 222 lbs, I expect him to start taking over for the aging Rod Smith this year. Marshall's numbers last year weren't all that impressive, but he only had 2 catches in his first 9 games and started becoming more of a factor later in the year with 18 catches in his last 7 games. As Cutler becomes more adept to the NFL, his strong arm will really start to show and there will be enough catches to go around. I expect him to arrive 1 year earlier than the 3-year plan most WR are on. He has a small legal matter right now and that is the only thing that worries me about him.
A_LYE22: 14.9
I'll take Dallas Clark as my final TE. Hey, he plays for the most electrifying offense in the NFL, so you've got to like his odds for putting' up a few stats. Plus, this position is pretty weak at this point in the draft, so I feel he could be a steal for this kind of value.
JUSTGREAT: 14.10
With the last pick in the 14th round, I select Eddie Kennison as my final WR. He slowed down a bit last year coming up short of his previous 1000+ yard seasons but did have 5 TD receptions and is still the #1 guy in KC. with defenses stacking the line to stop Larry Johnson, Damon Huard will be forced to lean heavily on the veteran. We may see Kennison return to a 1000+ yard season with 8-10 TD receptions.
JUSTGREAT: 15.1
With the first pick in the final round, I will select my second TE Heath Miller, who due to the Steelers poor offensive line was forced to stay at home in order to protect Big Ben last season. That factor kept him from being the offensive weapon he is capable of being, but this should change this year with new offensive coordinator Bruce Arians in town.
A_LYE22: 15.2
I'll take the Saints, my favorite team (yes, even when they sucked...I’m no Band Wagoner). They ranked 11th last year and, even if they WERE playing a little over their heads, defenses are too hard to predict, so I will take my chances. Go Saints!!!
TITANFAN704: 15.3
With the third pick of the 15th round, I select QB, Jake Delhomme, Carolina. His numbers decreased somewhat last year but there were numerous injuries to the starting offensive line within the first few weeks of the season. His line will be healthy this year, which will give him better protection and allow him the time to make his reads. Plus, if all else fails, he can rack up yardage and TD's by throwing screens and hitches to Steve Smith. That alone is worth my backup QB spot.
WRIGLEY161: 15.4
I’ll take Ben Troupe as my second TE from the Titans. Wrigley provided no further commentary.
HOKIE628: 15.5
I select the Seahawks defense. They are always reliable, not too good-not too bad, and as a second defense, I’m fine with that!
FANTASY DR X: 15.6
I select Daniel Graham as my back-up TE. Tony Scheffler from the Broncos suffered an injury as of late and even tough he’s slated to heal by pre-season, I believe coach Shanahan would go with the seasoned veteran over the rookie for the most part. Then again, he’s my bye-week purpose TE.
THE_GOOBER08:15.7
I select the 49ers defense. I like the defense that Nolan and his staff have put together. I hate the 49ers with a passion, but this is fantasy football and I have to put that aside.
MICHIGAN/OHIO: 15.8
TE Owen Daniels from the Texans. He showed some decent things last year and I believe he will continue to get better. Hopefully Matt Schaub will make him one of his favorite targets next season.
BOYGEORGE: 15.9
TE Zach Miller from the Raiders. No further commentary by George, but Dr X says he will be a TE sleeper this year. Forget Greg Olsen.
BRONCOFAN46: 15.10
I'll take the JETS. They don't do very well in NFL defensive play, but fantasy-wise they strangely produce valuable points.
Comment by MICH/OHIO: I like my team and in a typical league I would have a good team that would be hard to beat.
This would be a very interesting league. Usually you have two teams that stands out above the rest. Each team is strong in this league."
DR X's answer: You're right! Each team looks good and the winner would be the team that would substain less injuries during the year.
The fact that it was a slow draft (very, at times lol) and the great football knowledge that each one of you apported, made it for a competitive and professional draft. I couldn't thank you enough for contributing in educating the FF world.
I will post the 10 teams rosters in the next couple of days. Email me at fantasydrx@yahoo.com with any questions.
