Dear Fantasy Doctor X.

DR X's re-draft "Mock" : Rounds 4-5-6 results.

May 16, 2007
Author: Antonino Buccellato

Rating: 10.0 out of 10
Total votes: 12

Your Fantasy Doc will continue to update you with the results of the re-draft type "Mock". We have the results for rounds 4, 5 and 6 with their commentaries. I will keep my introdution short as there is a lot of useful information, from great FF minds, to be digested below.

BRONCOFAN46: 4.1
To start the 4th round, I select WR Roy Williams of the Lions. He was good last year, but was a victim of constant double-coverage. (Part of the reason for Mike Furrey's success).
I think defenses will have to honor Calvin Johnson this year, freeing up big Roy.  It is the second year under Martz's offense in Detroit. The team has added offensive weapons and their defense is still poor. That is a good formula for FF success in the passing game.

BOYGEORGE: 4.2
With the second pick in the fourth round, I select Marc Bulger. St. Louis has a high-powered offense and, Bulger is the maestro conducting it.
With so many targets to choose from (Holt, Bruce, and Steven Jackson) Bulger cannot fail as evinced over the years.

MICHIGAN/OHIO: 4.3
Marvin Harrison, Colts WR is my pick. The Colts have one of (if not) the best offense in the NFL.  Marvin is getting older but year after year, he continues to put out “Great” numbers.  I am surprised he has lasted this long.

THE_GOOBER08: 4.4
I’ll take T.J. Houshmandzadeh with my pick in the 4th round. He is one of the best fantasy second receivers. Most people would be happy with him as their first. I thought Qb here with Brees still on the board but I like my combo of RB’s and WR’s so far.

FANTASY DR X: 4.5
In the 4th round, I select QB Drew Brees from the Saints.
I know I'm sacrificing a second receiver with this pick, but I certainly will not be the one spitting on a possible (again) 4,400 plus passing yards and 26 TD's face.
I like my chances with him at QB with many good WR's including the RB duo of Bush and Deuce at his disposal.

HOKIE628: 4.6
With my fourth pick, I will take Anquan Boldin. Leinart will only improve this year and with an aging James, the Cards will have to look to the air more often.  Also, Arizona has improved their O-line to give Leinart more time to throw. In a division with San Fran, Seattle and St. Louis, they will have to put up a lot of points to keep up with those teams.

WRIGLEY161: 4.7
I’ll pick my team's first WR. Javon Walker of the Broncos.
He is the undisputed #1 in Denver and should continue to build a nice rapport with Cutler. He will post consistent numbers as usual. The acquisition of Travis Henry at RB will help his game as well.

TITANFAN704: 4.8
With the 8th pick in the 4th round, I select WR Donald Driver of Green Bay.
Three straight years of over 1,200 yards and that is with Brett Favre busy playing chuck and duck throwing the ball up for whoever wants to catch it. Driver has also proven to be a consistent producer no matter who is lining up opposite him at wide out. TD’s seem to be his only downfall but might this be the year he finally gets into double figures? HMMMMM.

A_LYE22: 4.9
I will take Marques Colston. This guy goes from three picks shy of being labeled “Mr. Irrelevant” to a force to be reckoned with and I want him on my team!
I think he'll improve upon his impressive rookie stats from last year, but will not exceed them by much. Still, even if he just duplicated last year's numbers, I like that production from my second WR. He seemed to be a factor in almost every game. That type consistency is great!

JUSTGREAT: 4.10
With the last pick in the forth round and WR's being depleted quickly, I am going to select Plaxico Burress in hopes that he finally lives up to his full potential. Although last year he finished behind only Harrison and Owens in TD receptions with 10, I believe he can still improve on those totals with his size, ability and a bit more dedication.

Dedication that seems to be present this year, with him showing up to mini camp much earlier than usual. This action should help improve his and Eli's on-field communication which has been errant in passed seasons. In addition, the loss of Tiki will force the Giant's to depend more on their passing game giving Burress additional opportunities to shine.

JUSTGREAT: 5.1
With the first pick in the 5th round, I will continue with the run on WR's and take Andre Johnson as my second WR. After Domanick Davis went down prior to the season opener in ’06, Andre emerged as one of Houston's few and most valuable offensive weapons, catching a career high 103 passes for 1,147 yards. He is a solid route runner with great hands and great speed that was slowed a bit in the latter half of last season, when he had to contend with double coverage, as teams were able to key on him.

This year figures to be different; with the addition of Ahman Green in the backfield, newly acquired WR's Andre Davis and rookie Jacoby Jones, teams will have more to contend on which player to cover. That should allow Johnson to find some open field and more single-coverage.

A_LYE22: 5.2
I'm not super pumped up about any of the QB's sitting out there right now, so I will build up my RB core a little by taking Cedric Benson. He put up pretty decent stats spelling Thomas Jones last season and, if you stretch that out over a full season with "starting RB" status, he's going to put up 10-15 TD’s and top 1,000 yards. It's his ball to tote and I'm guessing he'll get the job done nicely.

TITANFAN704: 5.3

Okay, I will take the leap of faith....
With the 3rd selection in the 5th round, I select WR Randy Moss, NE.
He has been on a steady decline the last couple of years but so has his QB situation as well as the overall team around him. A trade out of the "Perdition" team that has become to be known as the Oakland Raiders, to such a disciplined franchise such as the New England Patriots may be just what the doctor ordered to bring this guy back from the fantasy football dead.
The downside is that no WR has ever gone over 1,000 yards in any year for the Patriots in which Tom Brady has started the entire year.

Nevertheless, I look for that to change. I keep my expectations on him to be reasonable but can see him going for 60-80 Receptions, 1,000-1,200 yds and 8-10 TD's. The upside that he could regain his form of yesteryears and could possibly finish in the top five WR's is well worth a 5th round pick and a number 2 WR in my book.

WRIGLEY161: 5.4
I choose Santana Moss out of the Washington Redskins. He is a solid fantasy WR that always puts up good numbers. He is the main and only wide receiver in DC worth of fantasy consideration. Look for Moss to have another breakout year.

HOKIE628: 5.5
Lee Evans, WR, Bills. Evans racked up 1290 yards receiving and 8tds last year with Buffalo. That included him exploding for 42 fantasy points against Houston. He is the main guy in Buffalo as, unfortunately, Peerless Price and company don't strike any fear into the hearts of defensive coordinators.  I am also not sure Marshawn Lynch is much of an upgrade over Willis McGahee.  Nonetheless, Evans will be a top 15 receiver this year.

FANTASY DR X: 5.6
Your Fantasy Doc will shock some of you and probably myself by picking “CJ21” (Calvin Johnson) with the sixth pick in the 5th round.
I need a second receiver and with most notables already gone, I'll take my chances with this potential break-out candidate that could resemble the '06 version of Colston, except that there is far more awareness about him.
The fact that he will play under Mike Martz eases my mind about him being a risky pick. With the RB situation very muddy in Detroit, the Lions will be required, once again, to rely on their passing game.
Overall, I sponsor the opinion of Calvin Johnson having an immediate impact in the fantasy world, like the type that Anquan Boldin achieved in his (2003) rookie season. In case you were wondering, Boldin’s rookie stats included 101 REC, 1,377 yards and 8 TD’s.

THE_GOOBER08: 5.7
I’ll pick a rookie here as well. I know this is a mock but with the rumors about Alexander’s foot, I need another running back so ill go with Marshawn Lynch from Buffalo. He is a rookie, but I think he will have a big fantasy impact with both catching and running the ball. Lynch is a Faulk-type of runner, I think.

MICHIGAN/OHIO: 5.8
Hines Ward of the Steelers is my selection. With Big Ben recuperating well from injury, he should be once again one of the top WR’s in fantasy. He’s still #1 in the “Steel City” WR’s depth chart.

BOYGEORGE: 5.9
With the 9th pick in the 5th round, I select, Braylon Edwards.  Wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns. Tight end Kellen Winslow Jr., is still recuperating and won't be ready for the start of the season, leaving, Edwards, as the focus in the air game. I just hope that the Browns will have an offensive team at all. Edwards should be primed to put-up substantial numbers on a team that can only go up.

BRONCOFAN46: 5.10
I am delighted to find a veritable plethora of choices at RB available to me with the last pick in the 5th round.  I was tempted to take two of them!
I am amazed to see Deuce McAllister still available at the end of the fifth round. I would take him, except for the fact that I already have Reggie Bush.  I don't want two RB's from the same team.
Therefore, I select Marion Barber.  He had an amazing season last year with few carries.  He racked up 650 yards rushing and 200 yards passing with an incredible 16 TD's as a third down and goal-line back.  I think the RBBC in Dallas will continue with Julius Jones and I wish I knew if Barber will get more carries next season.
A recent report implied that Jones is still the starter. I think, though, that Barber will get more work.  I also think that Dallas wants more of a power running game to take the pressure off young Tony Romo. I love Barber's potential. I see more yards for him, but maybe not quite the same number of TD's.

BRONCOFAN46: 6.1
Reggie Brown, WR, Eagles. The number 1 option in Philadelphia this year in the receiving game. Kevin Curtis will help shred some coverage off him.

BOYGEORGE: 6.2
With the second pick in the sixth round, I select, Darrell Jackson, wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers. Jackson has been the top receiver for the Seattle Seahawks for many years and I don't see him tailing off much because he is on a new team. D-JAX will be the top wide receiver for a QB who already has a good running back and tight end to spread the wealth around.

MICHIGAN/OHIO: 6.3
Joe Horn, WR, Atlanta. I am hoping I will be in my final destination in a few days.  I will continue to stop in as often as I can.  Hopefully, I will be able to do an actual selection but if not I will continue to rank my players.
"Thank you, FANTASY DR X and BRONCOFAN46, for helping me while unable to access a computer.  Doc, your reasons behind my ranking/selection for Hines Ward were 100% correct. I am hoping I will be at my final destination in a few days.  I will continue to stop in as often as I can.  Hopefully, I will be able to do an actual selection but if not, I will continue to rank my players and reasons."

" No problem MICH/OHIO. Good luck with your trip, may the LORD be with you. Thanks for serving our great country and make it a safe place to live. Thanks to people like you, we can talk about about our hobby, FF."

NOTE: MICH/OHIO is in the military.
I am taking a gamble with Horn of Atlanta.  But I think that Vick- to- Horn will be a good connection.

THE_GOOBER08: 6.4
Donovan McNabb. McNabb was simply the best FFL QB last year before his injury.  He plays for a team that likes the throw the ball. (Andy Reid is foremost a passing coach). McNabb still has many weapons offensively in Westbrook, Reggie Brown and now Kevin Curtis.
It remains to be seen how he will recover from his knee injury, but Philly has one of the best medical staffs in the league. McNabb has been prone to injury in the past, but I think he will stay healthy this year. I also like his offensive line.

FANTASY DR X: 6.5
I'll take Adrian Peterson, RB for the Vikings. Yes, another rookie.
I wanted to draft Marshawn Lynch ahead of him, if given the chance, since Lynch will be the main runner in Buffalo (A-TRAIN doesn't count). Lynch is also a different runner than Willis McGahee was. McGahee was too one-dimensional while Lynch is capable of changing direction quickly.

Adrian Peterson will split with Chester Taylor in Minnesota at the beginning, but will take over the starting role as the season progresses. Besides, the Vikings O-line is much better than the Bills' one. The Vikings don't have enough good WR's or even a decent proven QB to exploit the passing game, therefore relying on both runners to succeed. That's is why I like Peterson more than Lynch, after much consideration.

HOKIE628: 6.6
Carnell “Cadillac” Williams, RB for the Bucs. Williams is a young RB who will be the main man in TB.  He should rebound from his disappointing 2006 season.  Hopefully, he will have no more back issues.  Simms and Garcia should provide more stability at QB to balance the attack.  Tampa has improved its O-line during the off-season.

WRIGLEY161: 6.7
I choose Warrick Dunn out of Atlanta. I choose him because the Falcons are going with a new kind of football. Vick is going to be used less and the Falcons are going to use “Real” RB’s in  their running game. My only worry is that the Falcons are going to use three running backs most of the time, cutting into Dunn’s potential.

TITANFAN704: 6.8
With the 8th pick in the 6th round, I select RB Deuce McAllister, NO. He will provide the thunder to Bush's lightning on a high-powered offense. With Bush being able to line up on the flank all the time, and not being as good in between the tackles as Deuce, I think Deuce will continue to get the bulk of the carries including  the goal line variety. I would estimate him at about 1,200 total yards and 10-12 TD’s.

A_LYE22: 6.9
Well, as much as I hate to do this, because aside from Gates, TE's seem too unpredictable, I’ll grab arguably the second best TE in Tony Gonzalez. The guy is great and about as consistent as they come. I can't think of anyone else who will be as close to a lock for 900-1,000 yards receiving and 6-8 TD’s in the TE department. So, I go with "Gonzo".

JUSTGREAT: 6.10
With the last pick in the sixth round, I will select RB Brandon Jacobs. He's a big power runner who proved in his first season he could get the job done averaging 4.4 yards per carry while finding the end-zone 9 times in limited playing time behind Tiki Barber. The Giants did acquire a declining Reuben Droughns in the off season for a supporting role but the starting job is Jacobs’. Brandon will get the goal line duties along with the lion’s share of carries. His power could make him hard to stop. He’s a nice pick-up this late in the draft.
