On March 26th, I wrote an article suggesting picking up FA Dimitri Young.
This is what I wrote then:
"Remember Dimitri Young? The first baseman who played for the Detroit Tigers last year?
He was released by the Tigers before the end of the season because of all his family and health problems. This year he was unemployed and trying to impress the "Nats" in their minor league camp hoping for a new chance.
Suddenly, the Major league Washington Nationals came calling. Their projected starter at 1B Travis Lee had requested to be released this past Sunday, opening the door for Young to be the Nationals' opening day starter at 1B.
Your Fantasy Doc suggests to pick him up at once and release Travis Lee along the way. He has a lot of potential and will prove useful until regular starter Nick Johnson comes back in a couple of months."
Since the start of the season he has had 10 hits in 39 at bats. Of those10 hits, 4 have been singles, 4 doubles and 2 home-runs.
He has also scored 5 runs and has 5 RBI's. He could have done more damage if it wasn't for opposing pitchers that have pitched around him by walking him 11 times already.
In a basic scoring league all of his stats account for 40 Fantasy points. Better numbers than some higher ranked stars to start the season.
D. Young continues to be a reliable stop-gag until Nick Johnson returns in the Nationals' lineup.
NOTE: My other suggested FA pick-up, Erubiel Durazo, hasn't played for the A's, so the jury is still out on him.
