You ain’t fooling me…..Mr. Russell.
Who I am talking about is Ray Russell. Uncle of the possible # 1 overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, JaMarcus Russell, former QB at LSU.
Let your Doc explain why he ain’t fooling him nor should he fool you, my dear patients..Er...Readers.
It all started when a TV NFL analyst questioned JaMarcus’ lack of work ethic or even the desire to play football, therefore implying that he shouldn’t deserve the $30 million that the top pick commands this year and is to be guaranteed.
JaMarcus just shook his head when he heard the comments. His uncle almost jumped out of his chair. Then, he went on with this statement:
“He doesn’t love football? Put it like this: The boy is in 10th grade, going into 11th, and there’s this quarterback camp that is supposed to be the best in the country. The Elite 11 in California. We get into our car in Mobile and drive two and a half days to get to that camp- so he can get the water bottles and help run drills for the 11 guys in camp.
That’s how important football IS to him.”
Note that Mr. Russell used the wrong word there. He said IS where he should have said WAS.
Football was important to him then, you just meant to say, Mr. Russell. Right?
I know you’re trying to cover up for your nephew, like we all would if our kids were accused of something.
That wrong word he used, led me to believe that Mr. Russell knows deep down inside about JaMarcus’ lack of “discipline”. His subconscious made him use that word!
When we were little, we all wanted to be a fireman or a movie star growing up. Didn’t we?
What desire that little boy JaMarcus had to play football growing up, WAS then!
Now, the TV analyst and I, are not really questioning the fact that whether or not he still wants to play the game, because we're confident he does. Like the ex-public relater for T.O once said: “I’m sure he has 30 million reasons to play!”
What the TV analyst was questioning was his work ethic and his commitment to go the extra mile, both, in my opinion.
Since he will face Brady Quinn as his lead competitor for the first overall spot in the NFL draft, I suggest he works hard at the combine and show us that his desire to excel is still there.
In essence, my dear readers pay attention to the words people use when they speak.
Don’t let them fool you! He didn’t fool your Fantasy Dr X and he “AIN’T” fooling you either, I bet.
Apparently he AIN'T even fooling the Raiders who left the NFL scouting combine less than convinced about drafting him with the 2nd overall pick, according to early reports. And not to fool the Raiders is very hard to do and truly sad!
This article wasn’t really about draft picks or projections as you’ve noticed; just view it as a change of pace article rather, as we’re waiting for the NFL draft to arrive!
