Chick Fantasies – Week 17The last week of the season has always scared us girls. Hot fantasies can quickly turn into nightmares when top teams decide to rest their studs for the playoffs. However, with some playoff berths still to be decided and jobs to be secured, there will be plenty of virile men playing their hearts out as the NFL regular season comes to a close. Take a peek at who will be ending the season and starting out 2002 with a big bang. Fantasy Studs: Brett Favre: This dude never rests…especially with the divisional title still within grasp. On Sunday Brett will get to strut his fine stuff against the G-men. The Giants have had a very average pass defense this season. However, without Sehorn present to smother Favre’s scoring partners, Brett should be able to blast away at will. Rod Smith: Rod Smith is apparently not a happy camper as his Broncos have been eliminated from the playoffs. However, his fantasy owners are singing a different tune this season. Last week Smith shattered the Broncos reception record with 106 catches for the year. Even with two sprained ankles, he has managed to come up huge and last week he caught the winning touchdown. With the sleazy Colts on the schedule, Smith should have no problem racking up quite a few more receptions to add to his already obscene total. Antowain Smith: This Buffalo castaway sure made the Bills look stupid this season as he jump-started the Patriots’ running game. This Sunday he will get the New Year off to a hot start as he grinds it out against the league’s most porous run defense. With the AFC East still up for grabs, Smith should bring his hottest moves. Terry Allen: Ironically enough, another ex-Patriot running back stars in our sizzling fantasies this week. The old man from Baltimore was limited to 74 rushing yards and no scores against the bruising Bucs. However, he should be in for a lot more fun as he ends the regular season against the Vikings. The Minnesota boys are done for the year and are not playing with much emotion. Although they silenced Ahman Green last week, we do not see the league’s 26th ranked rush defense stepping up two weeks in a row. Fantasy Duds: Stacey Mack: Last week the Jaguar backup thrilled his fantasy owners with 125 rushing yards and a touchdown. This week his owners will be in for a letdown as Mack has the misfortune of ending his season against one of the league’s most grueling defenses. Last week the Bears blanked the Lions and limited them to 64 yards on the ground. James Thrash: McNabb’s favorite receiver has certainly had a breakout season. Last week he rocked with 143 receiving yards and a score. The regular season will come to a uneventful conclusion for Thrash as he tries to work his magic against the NFL’s stingiest pass defense.
