Just a quick hit this week folks — not
a lot of time to go into detail.
Because
of this I’m going with a little bit of a different format:
Baltimore
Injury/change: Priest Holmes has been demoted to the change-of-pace
back role.
Who benefits/loses: Jamal Lewis has been named the Ravens starter.
He’s looked good so far this year and might not make a bad No. 3 fantasy
RB.
Buffalo
Injury/change: TE Jay Riemersma could be out for as long as six
weeks with a knee injury.
Who benefits/loses: Bobby Collins moves into the No. 1 spot on the
depth chart. Buffalo uses the TE quite a bit, so if Collins shows he’s
a viable replacement pick him up. I’d wait a week though.
Carolina
Injury/change: The Panthers signed RB Anthony Johnson.
Who benefits/loses: Johnson could easily supplant RB Stacey Mack as
the main backup to the oft-injured Fred Taylor. Johnson is worth a shot
if you have Taylor or are in a really deep league with a big enough roster
to afford picking him up.
Chicago
Injury/change: Curtis Enis has been moved full time to the fullback
role.
Who benefits/loses: James Allen has been named the Bears’ feature
back. Until the Chicago offense gets straightened out, no Bear back can
be counted on, but it looks like Allen, rightfully so, will be the man.
He's only worth a pick up in deep leagues. Speedy rookie RB Marlon Barnes
is the sleeper on the roster and could get a look if Allen falters.
Injury/change: WR Bobby Engram is gone for the season with a torn
ACL.
Who benefits/loses: Eddie Kennison takes over for Engram, but is a
much different player. He adds a good deal of speed and could help open
up the Bear offense. Chicago has a handful of serviceable receivers, watch
this week to see who emerges before going after any of them, but if you
are in need of a WR now, Kennison appears to be the one to go after.
Denver
Injury/change: RB Terrell Davis is expected to be back for Week
4.
Who benefits/loses: Mike Anderson, who is leading the AFC in rushing,
becomes the back up, filling the role Olandis Gary was expected to have.
Hold on to him if you have Davis. If Anderson is dropped, pick him up
immediately if you have Davis.
Injury/change: QB Brian Griese has a slight tear in the labrum
of is throwing shoulder. His status for Week 4 is uncertain.
Who benefits/loses: If you have Griese you better go out and get Gus
Frerotte, who would replace him in the lineup.
Kansas City
Injury/change: RB Donnell Bennett is expected to return in Week
4.
Who benefits/loses: Even though rookie Frank Moreau was the leading
rusher in Week 3, many of his yards came late in a blowout, and Tony Richardson
has been much more consistent. Richardson figures to return to the feature-back
role he had before Bennett went down with an injury.
Oakland
Injury/change: RB Tyrone Davis has a sprained ankle and isn’t
expected to see much time against Cleveland in Week 4.
Who benefits/loses: Napoleon Kaufman will get increased playing time.
If the game is as lopsided as many would project, Wheatley may not see
the field. Kaufman could be a good fantasy producer this week if you don’t
have better options.
San Diego
Injury/change: RB Robert Chancey is injured and did not do much
in Week 3.
Who benefits/loses: Jermaine Fazande is expected to return this
week and get the start. No San Diego RB will do jack squat until the Charger
passing game gets straightened out. However, if this ever happens Fazande
could turn into the decent sleeper many projected him to be. He’s worth
a pick up.
Injury/change: QB Moses Moreno is expected to be out at least
two weeks with a shoulder injury.
Who benefits/loses: Ryan Leaf moves back into the No. 1 QB spot. Pick
him up if you must. He’s good for a start this week, but a lot will depend
on his Week 4 performance beyond that.
