Get
your FREE Dish Network system here.
I have received my new Dish PVR System, and thought
some people might want a 'first-hand' review of this system.
Let me explain that I have had Dish Network since
about 1996, and have been extremely pleased with the system and
service. We switched over from cable when we finally got tired of
all of the outages, and terrible service that cable was riddled
with. When we switched, we bought our own receivers and dish, and
I installed it myself.
Now Dish Network is offering 4 Free receivers (1 of
which is the PVR receiver), and free installation. My quick review
here is to cover the PVR system functions.
What is PVR?
PVR (Personal Video Recorder) is a receiver that replaces your 'cable'
box. It has the ability to record programs (like a VCR), pause and
rewind live TV, skip through commercials, and 1 touch program recording.
The Guide
One
of the neat things about it is that you can watch TV (in the upper-right)
and view what else is on TV. The guide can quickly jump up to 2
days ahead, and view everything on TV.
Interested in recording something tonight?
Just
find it in the guide, and select it. That's all there is to it.
Your guide will now show a little clock icon to the left of programs
'to be recorded'. You can record up to 35 hours - no tapes to rewind,
no timers to set. Just select the program.
Ready to watch a recoreded program?
Press
the 'PVR' button to see what you have waiting to be watched. Select
which one you want to watch, and it automattically plays the program.
Ok, so you need to answer the phone and it is ringing
in the middle of a program that you are watching. You don't even
have to bother hitting the 'record' button. Just answer the phone.
When you are off, push the rewind button on the remote and rewind
to where you left off. Dish PVR is always 'recording' what you are
watching. (pressing pause will have worked in a similar way, with
no need to rewind when the call is over). This is how the 'pausing
of LIVE T.V.' is used. Now you can skip through the commercials
in seconds.
I have never before promoted a product on my site
by writing a review, but this is truely one of the coolest toys
that I have and I wanted to let you know my thoughts on it. In fact,
if you have a question that I haven't answered, please feel free
to ask. You can email me at: pvr@addictfantasysports.com.
